For this year's edition, we turn the calendar back to 1981 for our trip to Vault. After stumbling to a 5-10-1 record the year before, Bart Starr was still squarely on the hot seat. However, hope sprang eternal and Packer fans entered the season with cautious optimism. As the yearbook cover shows below, the Packers tandem of Eddie Lee Ivery and Gerry Ellis was counted on to provide a strong 1-2 punch to balance the aerial exploits of Lynn Dickey, James Lofton, and Paul Coffman.
The image below the yearbook is from a tailgate in the fall of the 1981 season, and incldues our original Impeccable Pickers enjoying some pre-game festivities. We'll be sure to post more of these gems as the season progresses.
As we did last year, we will also provide the full game broadcasts of a number of Packers games from 1981. Watching games shot in standard definition from 40+ years ago is quite the experience. While some games are of decent quality, many can be a bit of a struggle to watch to our "modern" eyes. However, the payoff is in things like the commentary, play style, and even the commercials. That being said...I'm definitely looking forward to us getting to the 90's version of the Vault.
