It was a happy week in the Horn household, as after a bit of a delay young Willis finally received his very own jersey to rock on the ice. Number 28 seemed comfortable in his new digs as he notched an assist to help his team's cause. He also caused a breakaway. Horn's tenancious spirit is definitely coming through. It was noted by our onsite reporter that Willis was bumped by a guy so he "bumped him back". In related news, Britt and Mike have their dentist on speed dial.
We caught up with Willis recently for a rather entertaining conversation about the complexities of skating backwards. When asked for some advice on how to actually do it, Willis shared that you "just skate backwards". Very helpful.
We don't have any photographic evidence of Laney and Molly's exploits on the hardwood from this weekend, but we did get a report that the team went 1-1 in their first two games. Molly ended up with a number of steals and fast breaks, including a bucket. This lead her mother to notice that Molly excels in anticipating not only where the ball is headed, but also that there is a good possibilityTaylor Swift will be married on 6/13. (Folks, I just write what I'm supplied and leave it up to you to figure out what it means.)
**UPDATE** We received some images this morning of Laney and Molly's games yesterday so those have been added here.
The Post Pattern also caught up with Shakopee basketball coach John Wilma recently and sat down for a conversation that included insight into the development of one of his star athletes, Jack Wilma (possibly related). Coach Wilma was pleased with the progress Jack is making. Wilma commented that Wilma has a good understanding of the game and can be counted on to be in the right place. Wilma was also pleased with Wilma's defensive presence and basketball IQ. It was apparent in our conversation the younger Wilma has some proud parents and is having a lot of fun this season.
Madelyn Vanderhoof continues to prepare for her upcoming track season. A little known fact about collegiate track and field is that for the most part it doesn't quite bring in the revenue that a sport like football or basketball does. As such, in a completely unrelated note, the Post Pattern would like to encourage our readers to check out the link if you have the means to assist in supporting the WLC Track and Field program for the upcoming season.
Hannah Vanderhoof and the JV 1 Lady Warriors evened their record at 2-2 after strong wins against Evansville and McFarland this week. On Thursday, Hannah paced her team with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
