It was a tale of two halves in 1981 for the Green Bay Packers. The team was 2-6 at the halfway point, but after 5 TD passes from Lynn Dickey in Week 15 vs the Saints the Packers were sitting at 8-7, tied with the New York Giants. As they had swept the G-Men in their two contests that season (sounds odd today doesn't it?), the Packers were in a "win and in" scenario.
Along with Hank Stram, the legendary Vin Scully called the game. Commenting on the frigid temperatures, Scully noted that "Mark Twain said everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it". Unfortunately for Green Bay, they didn't do anything about the weather OR the game. For a team one win away from the playoffs, the Packers looked frozen all game and limped away with a 28-3 defeat, ending their season.
We've included the Week 15 contest vs the Saints if you'd like to see an enjoyable Packer game...and if you're a glutton for punishment the Week 16 loss to the Jets is included below it (if you do watch it...check out how the first drive for the Packers ends)
The 1981 Post Pattern issue listed below was the final issue of the season. The first main highlight was Doug's picking championship. The second was some pretty big news of it's own...that Cliff Christl, then a Packers beat reporter for the Green Bay Press Gazette had agreed to attend that years Impeccables Post Season Party!
While we were digging through the archives, we noticed that a page from the Thanksgiving edition had been misplaced, so we've included it here.
