Our first update of Buboltz kids sporting exploits will be a blend of a lookback on the spring/summer season as well as a kickoff to the fall season. We had three of our athletes graduate high school this past May, so our numbers might be a bit reduced until the youngsters get a bit older. That doesn't deter us though because, heck, if the Packers can sport the youngest roster in the league for 3 consecutive years then our kids can step up to the spotlight as well!
Starting in Brillion, Ella Kuchenbecker helped lead the lady Lions to the most wins in program history, as they finished the year with a phenomenal 21-4 record. Ella, anchoring the defense for the Lions behind the plate as catcher, was quoted by the Brillion News after the team clinched their first Regional Championship since 2018. "The girls have been great this year. I think the energy has been a huge part of it. It's just been positive all around". Ella closed out her softball career with a .329 OBP, with 54 hits and 42 RBI's. She finished her senior season as the 5th ranked fielder in the EWC, sporting a .986 fielding percentage. Ella was awarded Honorable Mention as catcher in the conference. Ella will pursue a career in dentistry and start her education at NWTC.
Jack Simmons finished his running career with a successful spring track season. Jack ran well enough to earn 2nd Team All conference in both the 3200M as well as the 3200M relay in helping the boys to a conference championship. He ran a 4:48 mile, and hit 10:19 in the 2 mile. Jack finished high schoool as a 3 time state qualifier in cross country, including a team state championship in 2023. He earned four 2nd Team All Conference Awards, and 1 First Team award.
Jack just settled in to his dorm at Arey Hall on the campus of UW-Whitewater this weekend (which seems highly unlikely b/c I swear we just brought him home from the hospital only recently...how is that possible?). He is pursuing a business degree.
It didn't take Gwen Simmons long to find a new passion. After retiring from gymnastics, Gwen traded in her leo for a racing helmet. Ignited by a interest in F1 which took her to Montreal for the Grand Prix in June, Gwen has been blistering the track at K1 in Waukesha and is exploring an outdoor karting career. If anyone knows a good mechanic reach out to our editor.
Gwen plans on pursuing a degree in engineering
Hannah Vanderhoof wrapped up her freshman season as a part of the Lakeside track team. She has a strong contributor to the Conference Champion girls team, taking 2nd on the 4x200 relay. Hannah ran sprints and competed in the High Jump (sound familiar?). As the summer hit, Hannah kept busy with basketball leagues, volleyball games, and helping with camps at Lakeside. Hannah's sophomore year begins as the starting right-side hitter for the Lakeside varsity volleyball team. They've had a few scrimmages and a tournament so far. Their conference season starts off this Thursday (which is also the start of the NFL season...don't forget to turn in your picks on time!)
Madellyn Vanderhoof closed out her sophomore season at Wisconsin Lutheran College by earning a spot on the Dean's List. Madelyn has continued running sprints and doing the High Jump in college career and is now a 2 time NACC Scholar Athlete.
Noelle Vanderhoof graduated from Lakeside in May, but that didn't stop her from continuing to use her talents. Noelle joined the Lakeside choir for a beautiful rendition of the national anthem at the Milwaukee Brewers game on July 26th.
Noelle is continuing her education at MLC in New Ulm pursuing a degree in education. She is serving as an assistant coach for a local high school dance team.
Team Keller may have graduated one of their clan, but two more are ready to step up and make their own contributions. Delaney led off the County League Championship game with her first career home run. Delany helped bring home the championship trophy with a 18-12 victory. Coach Keller was both a proud coach and father!
Griffin ended his summer baseball season with an impressive win against Seymour while playing at the Green Bay Rockers stadium. Coach Keller is also in the dugout guiding on Griffin.
Jack Wilma and his baseball team were playoff champs this summer. He was also invited to represent his team and play on an All Star team in August. Three different cities / team combined to form one team. It was an awesome experience for Jack. This summer, Wilma was also named "Clutch Player" twice this season by his coaches which contributed to his ever expanding chain collection.
Jack has now donned his football pads in preparation for the fall season. His first game is this week...good luck Jack!
Alyssa Vanderhoof was greeted with fantastic news last week when she found out she had made the girls varsity tennis team at FVL. Alyssa wasted no time and had 2 matches already last week and will have two more complete by the time the NFL season starts on Thursday evening. The Post Pattern caught up with Alyssa for an interview on the topic:
PP: What was the process for deciding who made varsity?
AV: We played challenge matches and I did well enough to earn a spot on the #3 doubles team.
PP: How did you feel when you found out you were on varsity?
AV: Happy! But also nervous and excited.
PP: Who is your partner?
AV: Her name is Samara and she is a senior.
PP: What is something you have to improve on?

PP: What do you think you are the best at?
AV: Serving
PP: Who is your next match?
AV: We play at Appleton East on Tuesday
Good luck Alyssa...we LOVE to hear about your matches! (yes, that is a tennis pun).
Staying with the Appleton Vanderhoofs, after a very competitive tryout that included moving up 4 freshman, Natalie made JV1 volleyball. Her versatility again proved to be a strength. After playing mostly front row. on JV2, she now looks to transition to back row on the JV1 squad. Her first match is also on Tuesday (busy day in the Vanderhoof household!).
One final note, while brother Blake may have stepped away from the gridiron spotlight, he still plans on having some competitive fun at college. Blake will be competing in bags and ultimate frisbee at WLC. Blake plans to double major in Accounting and Finance.
Moving to Cedarburg, Caroline is keeping busy this fall as part of the Cedarburg Poms and Dance's White competition team. After a successful audition, Caroline also landed a role in the upcoming Falls Patio Players production of the musical Beetlejuice Jr in Menomonee Falls.
Sister Annie Buboltz is also joining Poms & Dance for their rec program after discovering a love for it at summer camp. She will also be hitting the field with Cedarburg Parks & Rec youth soccer.
Closing out our Buboltz Sports Kids Update, the Horn family has had an eventful summer. They were expecting to watch this year's Al's Pal's picking champion Willis Horn compete on the ball diamond, however an unfortunate trampoline accident put an end to his baseball season due to a broken arm.
Starlet Molly Horn spent her summer doing a few prep classes for her upcoming dance season. One highlight of the summer is that her squad got to perform before one of the Wisconsoin Timber Rattlers games which was according to one source "pretty cool".
Both Molly and a healed Willis will start soccer through school shortly, before Willis returns to the ice to play hockey later thsi year and Molly hits the dance floor.
