The third edition of the 1981 Post Pattern came in Week 7 of the NFL season. Green Bay was struggling at this point, limping to a 2-4 record and fresh off a 21-10 beat down by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were Dickey threw 4 interceptions and was harassed all afternoon. This lead to some calls in the Post Pattern for change...both with the QB and the coach. Speaking of the QB, some fans were calling for Dickey to be replaced by the new 1st round draft pick (6th overall) Rich Campbell. If you're a younger fan you may not know the name...there's a reason for that. Campbell was the only selection in the top 8 never to make a Pro Bowl, while 3 of those selections were Hall of Famers. Just two picks later Green Bay could have had the best safety of his era, Ronnie Lott.
The Post Pattern includes a sit-down interview, done by Marvis Buboltz, of a local kid who was in Green Bay's summer camp before being cut. Reed Giordana. Reed shared his thoughts on the organization and beleagured coach Bart Starr.
We've mentioned in the past the similarities between the old PP and our new version in terms of coincidental occurrences. Readers may note that this issue was the 2nd consecutive Post Pattern where an announcement was made for a "new addition" to the family (called "Mundoism" in this issue). In our revamped version, we've had two straight wedding celebrations. Doug's commentary on this trend in 1981 is hilarious.
