In our last issue we celebrated the 50th anniversary of Jay and Shelley Vanderhoof's marriage. This time around we're celebrating a marriage that just kicked off during a beautiful outdoor fall wedding recently. Lauren and Sean Meyer picked an absolute fantastic venue to exchange vows. The weather was unseasonably warm, but led to a wonderful fall evening for the banquet. Sean and his groomsmean provided plenty of entertainment with their coordinated dance attire for the evening festivities and Lauren danced the nght away with family and friends.
Maid of Honor Speech a Big Hit!
Ella Kuchenbecker overcame some pre-speech jitters (pictured here) to bring the house down in a truly memorable Maid of Honor speech at sister Lauren's wedding. Ella successfully interjected humor, wit, charm, and love into a speech that received 5 star reviews across the board. Ella's phone was NOT confiscated after the delivery so rumors about the use of ChatGPT can not be confirmed at the present time. Post speech, Sean's mother-in-law could be heard heaving a sigh of relief that no "colorful language" was accidentally used in the presentation.

Last issue in this section we highlighted the Eagles, Bills, Chargers, Colts and Bucs for their early season exploits. Since then, the Bills and Eagles dropped 2 straight (including games to divisional opponents), and the Chargers have lost 2 of 3 games. The Patriots are tied for the lead in the AFC East, while 3 teams are tied for the lead in the NFC West. All this is to say through 6 weeks, the NFL season has been as unpredictable as ever and is setting up for an exciting 2nd half of the season.
This issue has all our regular columns, plus a few new items to keep things fresh. As always, if you have ideas or would like to contribute we'd gladly welcome the help!

BJ Vanderhoof Authors Fast Start
Griffin Keller got the 2025 season off to a bang for our pickers, topping the charts with a 15-1 record. The Post Pattern's readers demonstrated they know football, with an astounding 25 pickers getting at least 11 games correct in Week 1. However, those pickers are all now looking up at BJ Vanderhoof through 3 weeks. Thanks to a PERFECT 16-0 mark in W2 and solid Week 3, BJ has taken a two pick lead over Lambeau Leap catcher Noah Vanderhoof. Twenty of our pickers are within 6 picks after Week 3, including cousins Griffin Keller and defending overall champ Willis Horn who lead the Juniors Division. Shelley, basking in anniversary glow today leads the Legends division. Noah is our Packer Nation leader which includes our Mystery Picker. At 32-16, our MP is off to a better start than the legendary MVP Favre, who was only 28-18 in his first 48 contests.
The Packers PR team knew what they were doing. With a kickoff at high-noon, Green Bay announced the defense for starting lineups, ending with ex-Cowboy Micah Parsons. The Lambeau faithful, with 77,239 in attendance (albeit too many Lions fans), roared to life as #1 made his way onto the field in his home debut for the Green and Gold. Plenty has been said about the impact Parsons may make on the defense, and even though he was on a "pitch count" for W1, even casual fans could tell the difference right from the start. After a Love to Kraft TD to open the game, Parsons first play came on a 3rd and 7 situation for Detroit on their first drive. He beat All-Pro Penei Sewell, and forced Jared Goff into throwing quicker than he wanted and leading the Lions to punt. It was a story that repeated itself throughout the day as in limited snaps Parsons recorded 3 pressures, including one that lead to an interception, as well as a sack that everyone in the stadium, except for Goff, saw coming.
Through three games this year, Parsons has 19 pressures despite being double-teamed on 2/3 of his snaps and TRIPLE teamed on nearly 11%. With all that attention, it was inevitable other Packer defenders would benefit. Rashan Gary couldn't agree more, and is the NFL leader in sacks through 3 games with 4.5 to his name. Devonte Wyatt has also capitalized, notching 2 sacks as an interior defender. Even Lucas Van Ness has been showing positive development as he is on pace for more pressures in 2025 than he had in his previous two years combined.
In the preseason, some fans voiced concern over the Packers cornerback situation. If the best defense is a good offense, the best way to shore up your secondary is to deploy a great pass rush. Green Bay is leading the league by allowing a league best 4.0 yards per pass (a full 2 YPA better than last year). For a league averaging nearly 30 attempts per game, that's a big improvement.
All this leads to what is the most important stat for the defense...points per game. Green Bay is currently allowing 14.7 PPG, a whopping 5 point improvement from the '24 campaign. Of course it's early in the season, but early returns on the Parsons trade seem very encouraging for Packer Nation.

If the Packers defense has received rave reviews through the first few games, the offense has experienced inconsistent results. Starting at home in Week 1, Green Bay came out firing. Green Bay shot out to a 17-3 halftime lead over the rival Lions and went on to secure a 27-13 victory that wasn't as close as the score indicates. Detroit seemingly intended to bottle up Josh Jacobs, but LaFluer dialed up an aerial plan that provided Love with open receivers at critical times throughout the day. Most impressively, Love threw from a clean pocket all afternoon and was never under any serious pressure vs Aiden Hutchinson, who was on an NFL Defensive Player of the Year trajectory before his injury last season.
In hindsight, perhaps the biggest development of that game was the injuries sustained by newly minted lineman Zach Tom and Aaron Banks. Both Banks and Tom sat out Week 2 vs the Commanders, but Anthony Belton stepped in at RT and was one of only 11 offensive tackles in the NFL to not give up a pressure...not bad for a rookie. Love threw for nearly 300 years, with TE Tucker Kraft being the primary benefactor. Kraft notched his first 100 yard game as a pro. Later the in game, the offense seemed to stall a bit though and Green Bay let Washington hang around before eventually closing it out. Unfortunately, that trend carried over to the Cleveland game.
Zach Tom, despite his best effort, was clearly still in pain, leaving after the first snap vs the Browns. Banks lasted 30 snaps but was pulled after a rough outing. Reliable Elgton Jenkins didn't live up to his standard, albeit playing at a new position this year. Jordan Morgan struggled significantly with 3 penalties (LaFluer has stated possibly moving Morgan all over the line wasn't the best of ideas...we agree). All this combined to the OL unit allowing 15 pressures and the lowest pass blocking grade PFF has given any team in the NFL since the 2021 season. While Cleveland does boast the only DE that Micah Parsons would admit is better than him (Myles Garrett), the Packers inability to generate any consistent rhythm on offense will give LaFluer something to work on. Unfortunately, an ankle injury suffered in practice this week by Belton will leave Green Bay short handed on the offensive line and is the primary concern for the club heading into "Big D" for a Sunday night match up with the Cowboys.

CBS Sports Celebrates 50 Years of NFL Today
Shelley and Jay aren't the only ones celebrating a 50th anniversary this month. One of the most iconic shows in NFL history, NFL Today on CBS, celebrated their 50th this past week. As a young boy, I recall Sunday morning coverage of football kicking off with Brent Musberger's voice saying"You are looking LIVE". CBS kicked off the event with Musberger reprising his iconic intro, and then did several throwback segments, including a tribute to Jimmy the Greek's picking segment. The rest of the hosts were clearly enjoying listening to Musberger reminence of stories from the past, their respect for the man evident. As I sat on my couch, I couldn't help but remember having similar conversations with Gramps. The CBS tribute reminded me of the talks we used to have watching football together...except I think the CBS crewg had a little more hair that we did/do.
